The Department was organized in 1990.

The total number of full time faculty – 15 employees, of which 4 professors, 3 doctors of science, 4 assistant professors, candidates in TechSciD, 2 senior lecturers, candidates in TechSciD, and also – 1 laboratory chief, 1 laboratory assistant, 1 doctoral candidate and 2 postgraduate students.

Our team – research-and-academic staff of the Department of  Processes, Devices and Automation of Food Production  of the Faculty of Equipment and Technical Service of KSUFTT.

RTD activities of Department

Currently, the Department carries out both highly professional training and teaching, and a high-quality RTD activities in the following areas:

  • Improvement of processes of production of dried semi-finished products from vegetable raw materials and equipment design.
  • Improvement of processes and equipment for the production of dry jams.
  • Development of recommendations on the implementation of the method and apparatus of frying cooking products electrocontact heating.
  • The development of advanced energy and resource saving processes and equipment for heat processing of food raw materials.
  • Mathematical modeling formulations of foods and health foods and clinical nutrition, and others.

At the Department the Scientific school The Improvement of Processes, Devices, Equipment for Food Production and Development of Advanced Technologies for Processing of Agricultural Raw Materials operates, which was founded in 1997 by Dr. Oleksander Cherevko, TechSciD, Prof., Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Rector of KSUFTT.

School activities aimed at the study of processes of food production, the development and improvement of technology of food and equipment for its implementation. This school has the following sections:

  • Scientific substantiation and development of advanced processes and equipment for the production of fried food products.
  • Scientific substantiation of processes and improvement of equipment for processing of wild food resources.
  • Improving processes and apparatus in the production of new high-foods.
  • Improving the processes of processing of wild and aromatic raw materials using MW Heating (microwave heating).
  • The development of advanced energy and resource saving processes and equipment for concentration and drying of food raw materials.

International  RTD activity

Research-and-academic staff of Department over the past 5 years, has actively participated in International scientific conferences, international fairs and exhibitions, competitions and other similar events.
Including was acquired practical experience of participation in the European Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, in particular:

For example, in 2007, within EC FP7 Call for proposal KBBE-2007-2-3-02: Assessment and improvement of existing food and feed technologies  Work Programme 2007 Call for Proposal of 22.12.2006 KBBE.2007-1 on direction Cooperation, Theme 2 «Food, agriculture and biotechnology» Activity 2.2: Fork to farm: Food including seafood), health and well being, Area 2.2.3 Food processing,  Department has prepared project proposal on its part to participation in consortia project under the title: Development of new systems, integrated approaches to assessing and improving the processing of cultivated and wild plant raw materials containing bioactive substances from industrial processing to delivery to consumers and home-made, covering security issues, nutrition, environment and economy.

Department’s participation in International RTD programs out of  FP7

Within framework of International RTD collaboration out of FP7 during development of 6-years (2008-2014) Pilot Program JAREC Kharkiv-Norway (The Joint Applied Research and Economic Cooperation Kharkiv-Norway) Department has prepared the project proposal on development and implementation of technology for the processing of vegetable raw materials under the title OFTE (Organic food technoloy and equipment) – Development and implementation of advanced high technology and specialized equipment for processing of non-traditional wild-growing vegetative raw material for the production of organic food with high biological value.

Currently Department spends much organizational work on searching for profile consortia within WP-Food 2016-2017 of the  Sub-priority  Food Security Priority area  Societal Challenges  2 EU Program Horizon 2020 (2014-2020)    first of all  – in area of food quality & safety, food processing and in others relevant research areas.

 Laboratory base of Department

Department has own specialized Laboratory of   Improvement of Processes and Equipment for Food Production (LIPEFP) at the Department of  Processes, Devices and Automation of Food Production – Faculty of Equipment and Technical Services of KSUFTT (Lab Chief  –   Dr. Valeriy Mikhailov, Prof. of  Dept., SciTechD, Vice-Rector on Science of KSUFTT).

Profile research and industry expertises that  the Department of  Processes, Devices and Automation of Food Production – Faculty of Equipment and Technical Services of KSUFT can actually performs in the case of address to him with such request possible European project consortium within the Horizon 2020 Programme:

  • Applied targeted research and industry expertises in the field of theoretical and practical aspects of the development of advanced processes and equipment for the production of food products.
  • Scientific substantiation of processes and improvement of equipment for processing of wild fruits and berries raw materials.
  • Improvement of processes and devices in the production of new high-viscosity food products.
  • Improvement of processing of wild and aromatic raw materials using microwave heaters.
  • Development of hardware design of technology products from fruits and berries.
  • Organizational and technological aspects of waste-free processing of agricultural raw materials.
  • The development of advanced energy and resource saving processes and equipment for concentration and drying of food raw materials.
  • The Department  is also ready to perform part of the of project profile scientific researches and carry out scientific expertises on the topics, proposed by the coordinator of the European project consortium.

Scientific achievements of Department

Also Department paid much attention to publishing activities. Materials of scientific researches was published in specialized scientific journals for  illumination of the scientific results of the thesis and the results of research staff of the Department, namely:

  • was published 18 monographs, 25 textbooks and teaching aids;
  • was received more than 150 patents and invention certificates for new types of food products and semi-finished products, the new devices and apparatus;
  • was developed more than 30 regulatory and technical documents;
  • was issued 50 guidelines;
  • was published more than 700 articles in scientific journals.
