Scientific and research activity of the department

The basis of scientific and research activity at the Department

Scientific and research activity of the Foreign Economic Activity and Tourism Management Department is conducted according to the plan of research work of the University both State budget and self-financing contractual themes.

Priority of scientific and research activity areas.

  • performance of both low cost (State budget) and self-financing scientific themes on planning and placement of commercial networks in the settlement sectors, forming the development strategy in the sphere of catering, food industry, food products, restaurant business;
  • performance of both low cost (State budget) and self-financing scientific themes on the development of corporate management scheme for a firm in conditions of business diversification, improvement of management system of trade- and-entertainment centers, the development of the methods of preparation programs for the development of tourism and the concept of creating tourist and recreational areas;
  • organization of the scientific and research work of masters in order to create research centers of the University;
  • raising the scientific level of lecturers of the department, preparation and defense of master's and doctoral theses on improving the competitiveness of enterprises – the subjects of foreign trade activity;
  • improving the quality of management of catering and tourist services, improving the management of enterprises engaged in foreign trade activities in the field of food industry.

Scientific schools at the Department

At the Department and acts now the following scientific schools were formed and are acting at present with the aim of studying the problems of socio-economic processes in the sphere of foreign trade activities of the subjects of restaurant, hotel and tourist industries:

  • Scientific school “Strategic Management in Sphere of Hospitality” (Scientific supervisor – Ph.D.Prof. Leonid Yatsun).
  • Scientific School  “Solving of the Problems of Dynamics and Transformation of Open Economy of Ukraine” (Scientific supervisor– Ph.D. Oleksandr Ol’shansky).

All themes of the theses of the lecturers of the Department are aimed at solving the most actual problems of management, enterprise, psychology of management, quality of hospitality services, human resource management. These are closely related to the courses that are taught at the Department.

The results of scientific researches conducted within the framework of the above scientific schools are being introduced both in the educational process and in the practice of activity of  enterprises of food trade and restaurant industry, engaged in foreign trade activities.

The themes of some actual scientific researches on the which the researchers of the Department are working now are:

  • solving the problems of catering and increasing its efficienc;
  • formation of goal-oriented programs of the social-and-economic  development of territories;
  • Development of the methods of preparation of the local development  of the trade and catering programs;
  • Development of modeling services forms of network calculation of  catering and trade institutions;
  • Development of projects and programs as to formation of catering and trade system for  tourists and the local communities of recreation areas.

International  scientific and research activity

The scientific and research staff over the past 5 years actively participated in international scientific-and-practical conferences on actual problems of improving teaching methods, specialized fairs and exhibitions, as well as in the introduction of the best practices of improving the competitiveness of enterprises - the subjects of foreign trade activity, improving the quality of services, improving the efficiency of foreign trade activities  and other profile directions.

The scientific and research staff studied the possibility of participation in the European Framework Programs of the research-and-technological development of FP7 in particular (2007-2014).

The Involvement of the Department  in FP8 – “Horizon 2020” (2014-2020)

Currently the Department is conducting organizational work on searching for profile consortia within working programs WP-Food 2016-2017 of the Sub-priority  “Food Security”, Priority area  “Societal Challenges 2”, EU Program “Horizon 2020” (2014-2020). First of all  – in the field of management of  foreign economic activities of Ukrainian enterprises to improve the safety and sustainable reliability of  produced food products, food processing and in other relevant research areas.

Material-and-technical base of the Department

Material-and-technical base of the Department provides optimally both educational process and scientific and research activity of lecturers and students.

The Department has the necessary material-and-technical basis both for ensuring the training-and-educational process and for carrying out the planned scientific and research work for lecturers and students: lecture halls and classrooms, where lectures, seminars and workshops are held. The premises for lectures and practical classes meet the modern requirements of the educational process using modern computer equipment, specialized computer devices and software.

Basic expertises and RTD carried out by the Department  for project customers

Specific profile scientific research & technology development (RTD) and industry sectoral expertises that  the Department of Management of Organizations of the Faculty of Management of KSUFTT  can actually performs in the case of address to him with such request possible European project consortium within the Horizon 2020 Programme:

  • Applied targeted researches and industry expertises in the field of improving the quality of management in catering, improvement of enterprise management system, carrying out foreign trade activities in the field of food providing sphere.
  • Development projects and programs of formation of food and trade systems for tourists and the local population of recreational areas.
  • The decision of the planning and placement of commercial problems of networks in the settlements, building development strategies food service sector, food industry, food products, restaurant economy.
  • Other specialized expertises on a proposal of foreign customer.
  • The Department  is also ready to perform part of the of project profile scientific researches and carry out scientific expertises on the topics, proposed by the coordinator of the European project consortium.

 Scientific publishing activity

During the time of existence of the Department (since 2008), the researchers of the Department have published more than 250 scientific-and-methodical works. The total volume of published work is 112.8 published sheets (PS)*. Among the published works - 3 monographs of total volume of  24.7 published sheets (PS), 5 manuals of total volume of  65.2 published sheets (PS)*,  27 articles of total volume of  13 published sheets (PS),   57 scientific abstracts of total volume of  9.9 published sheets (PS). Most of the scientific works of the Department made the works, published in scientific collections of KSUFT and in collections of scientific papers of related profile universities.

*Note: «Published sheet» – conventional  published sheet (PS)  – unit of measurement of volume publications or separate publication, which is equal to one side of the printed sheet of format 60×90 cm. 1 PS  –   is conventionally equal 24 pages A4 of total volume of 40 000 characters with blanks.
